Review: KENWOOD Music Control App

KENWOOD Music Control is a player application that provides a range of playback options beyond the standard ones. With this app, you can create mood-based playlists and easily control the music on your Android device from your Kenwood car audio system.

New Function (ver1.3.92)

1. Landscape mode applied.
2. The display direction on compatible models has been changed to landscape from portrait.
3. Play, pause, track navigation commands are accessible from the lock screen and status bar.
4. Note: These modifications are applicable to devices running Android 4.0 or later.

Mood Playlist Function

The app includes a unique mood playlist function that analyzes the melodies of songs on your Android device and creates playlists based on your mood. For example, if you're in the mood for powerful songs today, you can easily create a playlist categorized as "Powerful." Different mood categories include High Energy (Active, Powerful, Core), Acoustic (Detailed, Simple, Smooth, Easy), Standard (Dynamic, Rockin, Vivid), and Stylistic (Cool, Urban, Trance).

Intro Skip Function

Another useful feature is the intro skip function, which detects the hook-lines of each song. This allows you to start listening to a song from its hook-line.

To use the mood playlist or intro skip function, you need to analyze your songs by following these steps:

1. Press the MENU key on any screen other than the playback list screen.
2. Select "Preference" and check the "Background analysis" checkbox.

Widget Function

The app supports music player widgets in three different sizes that can be placed on your home screen. You can control song playback, track navigation, and mood playlist playback directly from the widget.

Search Function

KENWOOD Music Control offers Incremental search, Global search, and Alphabetical search capabilities to help you find specific songs quickly and easily.

Sharing Function

You can also share your favorite songs or playlists on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook directly from the app.

Video Playback Function

In addition to music, you can play videos stored on your Android device using this app.

Move to SD Card

For devices with limited internal storage, the app can be moved to the SD card. Please note that moving the app while it is running will terminate all operations. Additionally, widgets cannot be used when the app is on the SD card.

Control from Kenwood Car Audio System

By connecting your Android device with KENWOOD Music Control installed to your Kenwood car audio system via USB, you can control the audio system directly. This includes functionalities like searching for songs by artist name or album name on your Android device.

Please note that only smartphones supporting MSC (Mass Storage Class) can be connected to the car audio system. To enable control from the car audio system, follow these steps:

1. Select "Analyzed data output settings" in "Preference" and choose either "Auto output" or "Output right now" to output music database information to the SD card.
2. Connect your smartphone to the Kenwood car audio system and enable USB Storage on your Android device.
